For quite a few converged communicators, there’s a very special day just around the corner: Graduation. May 7 is graduation day at Veterans Memorial Arena downtown, and it’s going to be an occasion to remember. Seniors in last Monday’s capstone class (DIG4855) took some time to decorate their caps ahead of the big day with all kinds of designs to capture the #concomms spirit. For this converged communicator, the design plunges back into the memorable days of DIG3286 (Assembling Digital Media) and the hours spent with the ever-so-deep words of the one and only Lev Manovich. A dizzying spiral of jargon (teleaction, hypermedia, transcoding, and so on… and so on…) and prose with more density than syntactic density itself packed page after page. But those chapters did loosen up the brain, and after finishing them, most of us learned a little more about communication – and often a lot more about what we were capable of writing about with some time and effort. That’s why a cover image from Manovich’s text has made it onto this graduation cap design – along with the official program hashtag #concomms, of course.
If you’re set to graduate and haven’t made a design yet, there’s still a couple of weeks to work on one. And if you have, you might want to share it – maybe on a blog like this one!
